I thought i'd just jump right in and show you all what i've been doing recently.
Year 2, Huddersfield Uni.
Costume with Textiles.
My project for this year was James and the Giant Peach. It all began by reading the play, then researching the insects, and then writing about what characteristics do the characters have. Then we had to come up with a new take for James and the Giant Peach.
I began to think what hasn't done before, this brought me to the idea of Japanese Street Fashion. Researching in books like FRUiTS + Gothic and Lolita, i began to sort out which images reminded me of which characters.
I specialise in print, therefore all my experimental fabrics with just print. -I LOVE PRINT JUST SO HANDS ON!! Love!-
I then had to chose four of the eight characters I researched. Then had to chose animals to represent this characters for my print. then these characters all have a colour pallet. I chose:
- Aunt Spiker - which i thought of a Macaw Parrot, they give me the creeps! - Blue, Green, Yellow, Red.
- James - i thought of jelly fish, their tentacles could represent rips and tears in his clothing. - Blue, Yellow, Red, Orange.
- Spider - whist researching i came across a blue tarantula, thought the colours would suit the Japanese style - Blues, White.
- Old-Green-Grasshopper - I decided to just stick with grasshoppers. - Browns, Greens.
After all experimenting and designing for each character, winter and Xmas came.
New term.
We had to decide what character/design we wanted to make for the Spider, she is inspired by Issey Miyake.
I started to make the dress and accessorises, then we had make-up + hair people for our models. But i decided to do it myself because i media make-up interests me... long story short. This is my final product.
Model: Bryony Donovan (she is BEAUTIFUL!) Photography: Lauren Crainer. (she doesn't have a blog or a site at the moment but will get back to you on it, but she's an amazing photographer)
